Alison Riske v Tereza Martincova Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first meeting between the 30-year old American, and the Czech, who is four years younger.

Riske, a Quarter-Finalist Two Years Ago

The last time this Championship took place, Riske reached the quarter-finals, her best ever showing in a Grand Slam, creating an upset along the way by beating Ashleigh Barty, who had just been crowned French Open Champion, and came into the match off a long unbeaten run.

She then lost to Serena Williams in three sets.

Prior to that, she also has three third round appearances at the tournament to her name.

At that time, the American was ranked inside the top twenty, but she has since drifted after several years of indifferent form.

Riske took a break after last year’s US Open and did not reappear on tour until the Madrid Open in April.

She missed the French Open with injury, beginning her grass court season in Nottingham, where she reached the second round before losing to compatriot Lauren Davis.

It was a similar story in Eastbourne earlier this week, with another second round defeat, this time at the hands of Arnya Sabalenka.

Martincova’s Second Appearance in the Main Draw

This will be just the second time in the main draw of Wimbledon for the Czech player. The only other time she got to this stage was in 2019, when she was beaten in the first round.

In fact, she has a poor record in Grand Slams altogether. Her recent appearance in the second round of the French Open was the best she has managed in any of them in her career.

However, she has prepared for Wimbledon well by playing a lot of matches on the surface already.

She began in Nottingham, where she got to the quarter-finals before losing to the Serb Nina Stojanovic.

Martincova then travelled to Birmingham, where she came through two rounds of qualifying to make the main draw.

Having done so she beat the Australian veteran Samantha Stosur and then Jelena Ostapenko, before going out at the quarter-fianl stage to Daria Kasatkina of Russia, beaten in three sets.

Riske v Martincova Prediction and Tip

Riske will start the favourite because of her greater Wimbledon experience, but Martincova has practiced hard on grass and should not be underestimated.
