Elina Svitolina v Alison Van Uytvanck Head to Head

In their one and only meeting on the WTA Tour – dating back to the 2015 Indian Wells – Svitolina emerged as the winner with 4-6, 7-6(4), 6-1.

Svitolina Struggling on Grass

World No. 5 Elina Svitolina participated in a couple of grass events ahead of the Wimbledon. In both those warm-up tournaments, the Ukrainian never quite managed to move past the second round.

In Berlin, she was awarded a bye into the second round where she lost to Ekaterina Alexandrova in straight sets. Then in the Viking International Eastbourne, she incurred a similar defeat – this one to Elena Rybakina.

Svitolina may not have won a singles title on the tour since September 2020 but her ability to deliver consistent, deep runs on the tour has allowed her to remain among the top-ranked players on the WTA Tour. Case in point, this season she reached the quarterfinal in WTA Abu Dhabi, Melbourne, and the Italian Open. The 26-year-old was also a semifinalist in the Miami Open and WTA Stuttgart.

That said, Svitolina will still fancy her chances of beating the Belgian here. After all, as a 2019 Wimbledon semifinalist, she has tasted a few wins here at SW19.

Van Uytvanck, Coming Off a Great Run

Alison Van Uytvanck is heading in this fixture after delivering one of her most consistent performances on the tour this season. Most recently, she played in an ITF $100,000 event in Nottingham where she reached the final and beat Arina Rodionova to win her 12th ITF title.

The week before, she played at the same place but on the WTA circuit – this time, she was a quarterfinalist where her run was stopped by Johanna Konta.

Looking at the Belgian’s entire season, these two grass events have been the sole highlights of the year so far. Before this, she went through the entire clay swing without a single win (five opening-round losses in five matches).

In the Australian Open series, her best results include a second-round appearance.

Considering her overall performance at Wimbledon, the best she has done is reaching the fourth round in the 2018 edition – it was also the only instance in her career where she beat a top 10 player (Garbine Muguruza) en route.

Svitolina v Van Uytvanck Prediction and Tip

Alison Van Uytvanck is confident and is sailing in high spirits at the moment. Her adversary, on the other hand, has been struggling on grass and that is something she can take advantage of. However, Svitolina is a formidable opponent who will make things difficult for the Belgian.

An early upset is definitely on the cards here in this entertaining game of tennis.
