Alexander Bublik v Mikhail Kukushkin Head to Head
Bublik won their only tour-level meeting at Eastbourne this year. While Kukushkin had won at a lower level in Astana in 2017.
Bublik Yet to Win a Match at Wimbledon
World No. 38 Alexander Bublik comes to Wimbledon with a 22-16 record in 2021.
The 24-year-old Kazakh, who reached the final in Antalya and Singapore, is a four-time finalist, having also reached two in 2019, but is still waiting for a maiden title.
Bublik also reached the quarterfinals in Miami, Madrid and Eastbourne and has a 3-2 record on grass this season.
Overall he has a career grass record of 7-6 and will be making his third appearance at Wimbledon, having lost in the first round in both the previous occasions. He was tamed by Andy Murray in 2017 and beaten in four by Gregoire Barrere in 2019.
Bublik has never gone past the third round at a major, having reached the stage once at the U.S. Open in 2019.
Among his significant performances this year, Bublik beat Matteo Berrettini en route the finals in Antalya, but had to retire from the final against Alex de Minaur after only two games.
Bublik also reached the final in Singapore but lost to Alexei Popyrin inspite of winning the first set. He also beat Denis Shapovalov and Aslan Karatsev en route the quarterfinals in Madrid, but fell to Casper Ruud.
Kukushkin In Woeful Touch
Facing Bublik in the first round will be compatriot Mikhail Kukushkin, who has a dismal 2-8 record this year and has lost five main draw matches on the trot.
Currently ranked 105th in the world, the former World No. 39’s last main draw win was against Jack Draper in Miami, where he won the first set before the Briton retired.
Kukushkin’s only other win this year came against Juan Ignacio Londero in his season opener at Melbourne-2.
The 33-year-old didn’t have a great 2020 either, going 6-10.
A winner at St Petersburg in 2010 and a runner-up at Moscow 2013, Sydney 2015 and Marseille 2019, Kukushkin will come to his ninth Wimbledon this year. His best came in 2019 when he reached the fourth round by defeating Pablo Andujar, John Isner and Jan-Lennard Struff before falling to Kei Nishikori. That was only his second Round of 16 appearance at a major, having reached that far at the Australian Open in 2012.
Bublik v Kukushkin Prediction and Tip
Last week Bublik defeated Kukushkin quite comfortably at Eastbourne, winning the first-round match 6-1, 6-4. Expect him to ease past the older pro once again on Tuesday.
