2019 French Open finalist, Marketa Vondrousova fought back from a set down to win her first match at Wimbledon in her fourth main draw appearance.

Vondrousova, who was knocked out in the opening rounds in 2017, 2018 and 2019, needed an hour and 33 minutes to beat the 24th seed Estonian player Annett Kontaveit 2-6, 6-4, 6-2.

Both players had 10 break points in the match, with the Czech converting five and saving six. She also hit 22 winners and made 16 unforced errors. She, however, won a point less than Kontaveit’s 81 in the match.

The 22-year-old left-hander, who reached a career-high ranking of 14 in 2019, has a title to her name, which she won in Switzerland in 2019. She also has three runner-up finishes.

A 2020 Italian Open semifinalist, Vondrousova began the year by reaching the semifinals at the Yarra Valley Classic. She also made it to the Round of 16s at the Australian and French Opens.

The World No. 338 made her senior debut in Nottingham last month, but was knocked out in the first round by Britain’s Harriet Dart.
