Matteo Berrettini v Ilya Ivashka Head to Head

Berrettini brings a 1-0 head-to-head record into this match, having beaten Ivashka in straight sets at the Portoroz Challenger in 2017.

Berrettini Serves His Way Past Bedene

Matteo Berrettini continues to clock up the numbers at this year’s Championships. He recorded his 100th tour-level match win at the expense of Aljaz Bedene to reach the fourth round of Wimbledon for the second time.

Berrettini simultaneously extended his winning streak on grass to eight matches having captured the Queen’s title prior to the start of the grass-court Slam.

The match was suspended for over an hour in the middle of the first set due to rain when the score was locked at 3-3. On resumption, the Italian gained the upper hand as he secured a break with a low return. He sealed the first set 6-4, dropping just three points behind his first serve.

This was a rematch of their first-round match at the 2019 Championships in which Berrettini emerged victorious in four sets. However, the powerful Italian snuffed out any danger of losing a set here, wrapping up the next two sets by the same scoreline, 6-4.

In total, he fired 20 aces, and the average speed of his first serve is one of the fastest recorded in the opening week at 125 mph. The Slovenian won just nine points against serving in the whole match.

Groundbreaking Week for Ivashka

After three near misses in qualifying in years gone by, Ilya Ivashka gained entry this time courtesy of his top 100 ranking after doing splendid work at tour-level in 2021. And it seems he is not ready to go out just yet.

Ivashka notched his third successive match win on Saturday (fortunately for him all coming against unseeded opponents), beating the tenacious Australian Jordan Thompson 6-4 6-4 6-4 in two hours and 2 minutes.

The man from Belarus who is up to a career-high ranking of World No. 79, fired seven aces, and won 73% of first serve points. He also broke Thompson’s serve six times in seven opportunities. The 27-year-old has also won five of his past six matches on grass dating back to his quarterfinal showing at Eastbourne.

Having claimed his first top 10 win over Alexander Zverev on the Munich clay, can he pull off another on Manic Monday?

Berrettini v Ivashka Prediction and Tip

This should be interesting despite Ivashka’s long shot at winning this match. The Belarusian might not match Berrettini for too long though. The Italian has been rattling through his games and if he keeps earning free points behind his impregnable first serve, he should win relatively easily.
