Jil Teichmann v Elena-Gabriela Ruse Head to Head

Teichmann Returns to Clay After Wimbledon Disappointment

Jil Teichmann’s stay in London was cut short as she was beaten quite comprehensively in the first round of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships by Camila Giorgi.

Playing in just her fifth tour-level match on grass, Teichmann was bound to struggle to repel the Italian’s flat hitting, powerful groundstrokes. The Swiss World No. 55 gave away cheap points especially in her second serve in which she won a measly 29% of points.

Giorgi’s dominance on the return was striking. She broke Teichmann’s serve four times, and won 27 receiving points.

After a bright first quarter which included back-to-back semifinal showings in Adelaide and Dubai, the 23-year-old has endured a torrid time on court. A thigh injury prevented her from competing fully at the Miami Masters, and since she managed to win just two matches at four tournaments.

Can a return to clay spark her season back to life?

Ruse Qualifies Without Losing  A Set

Fellow 23-year-old Elena-Gabriela Ruse dismissed Liang En-shuo and Isabella Shinikova in qualifying – both in straight sets – to reach the main draw in Hamburg. Ruse did not drop more than three games in a set in either of those matches to book a meeting against Teichmann.

Ruse, who lost in the first round of qualifying at Wimbledon has featured predominantly on the ITF circuit in the past few seasons. She has six singles titles at that level, and 10 in doubles.

She will get a rare opportunity to showcase her talent on the WTA tour once more on Wednesday in what will be her first main draw appearance of the season.

With a current world ranking of No.198, the young Romanian famously pushed the now-retired Agnieszka Radwanska to the brink at the 2018 Wimbledon Championships, squandering six match points in a three-set defeat. That was the closest she came to winning a Grand Slam match.

So far in 2021, she has played 21 matches, with nearly half of them coming in qualifying rounds. Can she make an impression against the World No.55?

Teichmann v Ruse Prediction and Tip

Teichmann walks in as the favorite, but Ruse will certainly make this competitive than it looks. The Romanian has plied her trade on clay, for the most part, this season.
