Andrea Petkovic v Ysaline Bonaventure Head to Head

This is the first meeting between the two ladies on the WTA Tour.

Bonaventure Delivers the Best Run of her Season

Ysaline Bonaventure arrived in Hamburg with a win-loss tally of 3-10. Her last tournament was Wimbledon where she lost in the second qualifying to Beatriz Haddad Maia.

In fact, the three wins that she has picked up this season have coming in the qualifying rounds of Grand Slams – two of which came in the Australian Open qualifiers. Between that and Wimbledon, Bonaventure lost eight matches back to back incurring opening-round exits all along the way.

So the fact that the current World No. 128 has made it to the quarterfinal here in the Hamburg European Open is certainly a remarkable feat. And needless to say, it wasn’t an easy task for her to do so.

In the first round, she survived Astra Sharma 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 in an hour and 47 minutes. In the next match, she beat the #74 ranked player Bernarda Pera 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in a little under two hours.

The 26-year-old has never reached a WTA singles final on the tour before and up until now, her best run came in the WTA Morocco in 2019 where she reached the same stage as a qualifier.

Petkovic Wins Back to Back Matches for a Change

The last time Petkovic won successive matches in the main draw of a competition was in October 2019, in Linz where she had reached the semifinal. Since then, a barren 2020 in terms of matches played and an under-par 2021 in terms of wins has meant this tournament has been special.

Having made the second round with a straight-set win over Anna-Lena Friedsam, Petkovic then shocked the 1/2 favourite Yulia Putintseva in the second to march into the last eight stage of the competition.

Petkovic and Putintseva ran away with the first and second sets respectively, both needing 38 minutes apiece to win them.

In a third set that saw five breaks of serve though, it was Petkovic who managed to edge ahead with a crucial break in the ninth game and then holding on to clinch the 10th.

And now that Petkovic faces another player whose recent record hasn’t been the greatest, she would consider herself a favourite. So do the bookmakers.

Petkovic v Bonaventure Prediction and Tip

This will be a good game as both the players are coming off great runs on the clay courts. The game can go either way but we may see another three-setter here with Petkovic coming through in the end.
