Benoit Paire v Ricardas Berankis Head to Head

The pair have met never before. This will be the first match between the 32 year old Frenchman, and the Lithuanian, who is a year younger.

Paire Form Continues to Remain a Worry

Paire will not be a member of the French team at this summer’s Olympics, having been ruled out of contention because of various behavioural issues.

That leaves him free to concentrate on tennis back in Europe, hand his bid to add to the three senior career titles he has already won – the Swedish Open in 2015, and the Grand Prix Hassan II and the Lyon Open both in 2019.

All of those victories have been clay court events – he has been in six other finals, all but one of those on hard courts, and lost them all.

2021 so far has not been his best year in tour, and he has not been further than the second round of any event he has entered, and endured a long losing sequence between March and May before finally winning a match at the Madrid Open.

Beaten in the first round of Wimbledon by Diego Schwartzman, he entered a Challenger even in Germany earlier this week in a bid to find some form, but was beaten again in the second round  stage by a player ranked more than 200 places below him in the world.

Berankis is Lithuanian Number One

Berankis has been the top ranked player in Lithuania, a country not known for producing tennis players for a number of years, and there are no obvious contenders to take his crown when he retires.

Once ranked as high as 50 in the world five years ago he has never won a  senior ATP title, although he has enjoyed success on the junior tours, where he has  triumphed in both hard and clay court tournaments, most recently in Vancouver in August 2019.

This year, his best result came in the French Open, where his run to the third round matched his previous best at any Grand Slam event, before he lost to the eventual winner, Novak Djokovic, for the second successive year.

His grass court season did not go so well, He qualified for Halle, but was beaten in the first round, and lost at the same stage at Wimbledon, beaten in straight sets by the South African, Lloyd Harris.

Paire v Berankis Prediction and Tip

Paire is in the middle of a slump, but he is capable of playing at a much higher level than he has shown so far to date. If he can find some of that form, he should have too much for the Lithuanian.
