Lopez Ends Grass Swing with Wimbledon Loss

Having played four tournaments on grass, Lopez ended it with four wins and four defeats but a first round loss at Wimbledon would have hurt. Especially since he fell in straight sets to Dan Evans.

Lopez has, as a result, opted to switch over to clay now instead of flying to Newport to take part in another tournament on grass, which given the Spaniard’s overall record on grass might be bit of a surprise.

The clay of Hamburg might not be the most enticing for Lopez either. He has played six matches on this surface this season and won just two of them. In fact looking at Lopez’s record over the past three seasons on clay, it can be said it’s been appalling.

The Spaniard has lost 10 of the 14 matches he has played on dirt in this period; the struggle has been real. And while he is facing a player ranked lower than him on the ATP charts, Taberner’s record on clay might not give Lopez too much hope.

Taberner Qualifies for Rare ATP Main Draw

He is ranked 114th in the world and hasn’t played in a lot of ATP main draw action in his career. In fact, this season, this will be only be his second main draw appearance, having earlier qualified for French Open.

On the Challenger circuit, however, Taberner has had some form going for him.

The Spaniard had earlier won the Antalya Challenger title and then went on clinch another one at Aix en Provenance more recently in June. Both on clay, which isn’t that big a surprise given the amount of clay court tennis Taberner plays anyway.

All three of his titles on the Challenger circuit have come on clay and add those to the Futures titles he has won on clay too, we are looking at a player who is looking to rely on this surface to move up the rankings charts.

Lopez v Taberner Prediction and Tip

This looks like it could potentially be an easy win for Taberner unless Lopez uses all of his experience to thwart his opponent. Believe it to be a straight-set victory for the younger Spaniard.
