Stojanovic Rallies to Beat Diatchenko

World No. 90 Nina Stojanovic fought back from a set down to defeat Russia’s Vitalia Diatchenko in the first round of the Prague Open on Monday.

Stojanovic saved eight of nine break points and converted five of six to win the two-hour-and-30-minute contest 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 6-3.

The win improved Stojanovic to 15-14 in all matches, including qualifiers this year. It also ended a three-match losing streak for the Serb, which began with a defeat to Johanna Konta in the semifinal of the Nottingham Open. Stojanovic had defeated Oceane Dodin, Donna Vekic and Tereza Martincova en route the final four in Nottingham, which has been her best performance so far this year.

The 24-year-old, who reached a career-high ranking of 81 last year, has otherwise struggled in other tournaments, winning two matches in a row just one other time this year, at the Miami Open. Coming through the qualifiers, Stojanovic defeated Heather Watson and Yulia Putintseva in the first two rounds before withdrawing from the tournament with a thigh injury.

Min Edges Past Stosur

Stojanovic will meet World No. 181 Grace Min, who defeated former U.S. Open champion Samantha Stosur in the first round on Monday.

Min had a total of 15 break points in the match but she could capitalise on just four of those chances, while the 37-year-old former World No. 4 got five chances to break the American’s serve with Min saving two of them to wrap up the up-and-down contest 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 in two hours and 18 minutes.

Min won a total of 93 points in the match, just three more than her opponent.

It was the 27-year-old right-hander’s first main-draw victory on the tour this year. She had previously qualified for both the Charleston tournaments, but fell in the opening rounds to Magdalena Frech at the Charleston Open and to Alycia Parks at the WTA 250.

A winner of 12 ITF titles, Min, who has a career-high ranking of 97, is 14-10 from all matches across levels this year.

Stojanovic v Min Prediction and Tip

Stojanovic has played a lot more at the top level this season and has won a lot of matches as well against tough opponents. Expect her to win and advance to the quarterfinals for the second time this year, having reached the last eight in Nottingham earlier.
