Greet Minnen v Storm Sanders Head to Head

The two ladies have never met before on the WTA Tour.

Sanders Survives Diaz

Storm Sanders just defeated Nuria Parrizas Diaz 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 to make it to the quarterfinals in Prague. It is certainly a remarkable feat, especially given that Diaz has had a significantly better season than the Australian.

It is only the second time this year that Sanders has reached this far in a WTA event, with the last time being Adelaide International. As a qualifier, she reached the quarterfinal upsetting Ajla Tomljanovic and Yulia Putintseva along the way. Between these two events, 26-year-old Sanders also played in the Miami Open and WTA Charleston, reaching the second round.

Her last tournament before Prague was Wimbledon where she fell in the qualifiers. However, in the doubles department, she did reach the semifinal, along with settling for the runner-up doubles trophies in Charleston and Nottingham Open.

Minnen Dispatches Gasanova

Greet Minnen, in her second-round match, took care of the Russian lucky loser Anastasia Gasanova 6-3, 7-6(3) in an hour and 47 minutes.

The Belgian arrived in Prague with a win-loss tally of 20-14 and a strong determination to crack the top 100. The last time Minnen found herself in the quarterfinal of a WTA event, it was in Lyon earlier this year where she fell to Viktorija Golubic.

Since then, the 23-year-old Minnen has alternated between ITF and the top-tier tournaments but couldn’t make much in either of the circuits. Her stint was in Wimbledon where she made it to the main draw after clearing her qualifiers, only to lose to Tomljanovic.

Her overall pedigree on the tour, when compared to Sanders, is quite impressive with 15 ITF singles finals to four of the Aussie’s. However, what Sanders lacks in the singles department, she more than makes up for it with her doubles play.

Minnen v Sanders Prediction and Tip

With just 20 odd places separating the two players (Minnen at 122, Sanders at 141) in the ranking, both of them will eye the chance of reaching the semifinal. That said, Sanders will start as the possible favourite on account of her superior experience and form.
