Jaume Munar v Stefano Travaglia Head to Head

Including qualifiers, Munar and Travaglia are tied at 1-1 in their head-to-head. Both of those matches took place in 2018 in which the Spaniard triumphed in the qualifying round of the Australian Open in straight sets. However, on clay, the 88th-ranked Italian won at the Marbella Challenger in three sets.

Munar Stunned By Kohlschreiber in Hamburg

Munar is not off the skid just yet. His surprising 7-6 6-4 defeat to Philipp Kohlschreiber at the German Open extended his winless streak to four matches.

The defeat was hard to digest on the Spaniard’s part. He manufactured three set points in the first set when he served for it at 5-4, but the 37-year-old ageless veteran found a way to garner a crucial break of serve. Ultimately, Munar imploded in the tiebreaker and was then broken early in the second set.

Since he beat Jordan Thompson in the first round of Roland Garros, he hasn’t managed to post another match win. He was beaten by Reilly Opelka in the subsequent round of the clay Slam and made first-round exits at each of his next three tournaments.

But considering that two of those events were on grass – where Munar has not set the world alight before – he will be relieved to have seen the back of it.

The 24-year-old Spaniard will make his debut at the Swiss Open in Gstaad when he plays Stefanos Travaglia for the first time since 2018.

Travaglia Switches from Grass to Clay

Stefano Travaglia was as low as 1/4 to win his first-round match at Wimbledon against renowned clay-court campaigner Pedro Martinez. Those odds were simply preposterous considering that Travaglia had never won a main draw grass-court match before this year.

Or maybe the bookies read too much into his defeat at Queen’s. Just a couple of weeks prior to Wimbledon, Travalgia had pushed his countryman Matteo Berrettini in London – losing narrowly in two tiebreak sets. And in Mallorca, he managed to post his maiden tour-level win on the surface when he beat Guido Pella.

Despite outpacing Martinez in the ace count (13 to 3) and first-serve points (69% to 62%), Travaglia was beaten 3-6 6-2 4-6 4-6, cutting short his Wimbledon stay.

The 29-year-old had started the season in brilliant fashion, reaching the last eight in Antalya in the season opener and then making it to his first-ever tour-level final at the Great Ocean Road Open.

He couldn’t win a maiden title, losing to Jannik Sinner in the final and lost form completely after that. In his last nine matches, the Italian has a woeful 2-7 record.

Munar v Travaglia Prediction and Tip

Neither player has taken encouraging steps to return to winning form in recent weeks. But given both players’ affinity towards clay, we should expect a dogfight between two players who are so vulnerable right now.
