Jurij Rodionov v Sebastian Ofner Head to Head

They have met thrice at qualifying and lower levels with Ofner having a 2-1 lead.

Rodionov Will Look to Produce Stuttgart-like Performance

Jurij Rodionov hasn’t played much at the top level in his career, but the 22-year-old was impressive in Stuttgart, where he reached a first tour-level semifinal by beating much higher-ranked players in Dominik Koepfer and Alex de Minaur. He eventually had to withdraw from the semifinal with an injury while he trailed the eventual champion Marin Cilic 3-6, 0-1.

The Austrian also reached a fourth Challenger-level final earlier this year in Nur Sultan, but couldn’t maintain his perfect record in Challenger finals, falling to Mackenzie McDonald in straight sets.

Apart from those two big results this year, Rodionov has had little success elsewhere, failing to qualify for most of the ATP events, or making first round exits, and falling early at the lower-level tournaments as well.

Can he blossom on the hard courts of Los Cabos? The lefty tends to do well on the surface, although he has played just three career matches on the tour and has a 1-2 record, but he has delivered at the lower levels and he will fancy his chances against his double partner.

Ofner Yet to Win a Senior Level Match on Hard Court

Sebastian Ofner isn’t too experienced on the tour either, but he has played a few matches more than his first-round opponent. However, the 25-year-old tends to play better on clay where he has a 6-5 career record. He is yet to open his account on the hard courts having lost all three of his previous tour-level matches.

Ofner is coming off a pretty good grass season, where he qualified for both Queen’s and Newport and even won his first round match against Yasutaka Ushiyama at Newport, his only win of the season. Ofner lost to Kevin Anderon in the second round in Newport.

A winner of two Challenger and five Futures titles, Ofner earned a career-high ranking of 126 in 2019. His only main draw appearance at a Grand Slam saw him reach the third round of Wimbledon in 2017, after a shock win over Jack Sock.

Ofner also played a final on the Challenger Tour this year, finishing runner-up in Nur Sultan-2.

Rodionov v Ofner Prediction and Tip

Although Ofner got a win in Newport and Rodionov is on a three-match losing streak, the latter will be the favourite to win this contest and advance to the next round.
