Holger Vitus Nodskov Rune v Radu Albot Head to Head

The pair have played each other once before, and that was just last week in Bastad, wildcard Rune winning in three sets, and taking the third set to love.

Rising Danish Star Rune

18-year old Rune is a former junior number one ranked player, who won the boys’ singles at the French Open in 2019.

Since turning pro last year, he has already appeared in eight finals on the junior tours, winning four of them, with his most recent victory coming in Biella, Italy last month.

Clay is his preferred surface, although he has enjoyed a fair degree of success on hard courts as well.

However, he is not without controversy. His victory in Biella was overshadowed by allegations that he had made homophobic remarks in the course of his semi-final win. He was subsequently fined by the ATP< and warned about his future conduct.

Rune is increasingly starting to appear in the main draws of ATP senior events, normally after coming through the qualifying competition first.

Earlier this year, he followed that route to reach the quarter-finals in Santiago, before losing to Federico Delbonis, and he also appeared in Monte Carlo and Barcelona, although he did not get beyond the first round of either.

Last week, heat Albot in the first round in Bastad, before losing to the top seed Casper Ruud, in straight sets.

Albot Struggling for Form After Bright 2021 Start

Albot remains the only Moldovan player to win both a senior ATP singles and doubles title, with his wins at Delray Beach in 2019, and in Istanbul, four years earlier.

Two years ago, he was ranked inside the top 40, but several years of indifferent performances have seen his stock fall.

His best results in 2021 came at the start of the year.

That was when he matched his best ever performance in a Grand Slam by reaching the third round of the Australian Open, and from there, he travelled to Singapore, where he got to the semi-finals before losing to Alexander Bublik in three sets.

Since then, though, wins have been far and few between, and he was beaten in the first round of both the French Open and Wimbledon, and then again, last week, in Bastad by Rune.

Rune v Albot Prediction and Tip

Although Albot is the higher ranked player, these two played each other only a week ago, and Rune emerged the winner, whitewashing the Moldovan in the third set. The Dane would appear to have the edge.
