Anna Blinkova v Anna Karolina Schmiedlova Head to Head
There have been no previous meetings between Blinkova and Karolina Schmiedlova before this.
Blinkova in Strife with Her Results
Having nearly broken into the top 50 in 2019, Blinkova’s results have taken a big hit over the last couple of seasons. And it continues to be a woeful year for her as a result as she enters this tournament on the back of three wins from her past four tournaments.
In one of those competitions, in Berlin, Blinkova had incidentally failed to even make the main.
And even the aforementioned is a much improved version, having earlier gone on a six-match losing streak between March and May. It was only at Bol that she finally managed to arrest that slide and storm into the semifinal of that event.
Unfortunately for her, that result did not turn things around too drastically for her as she continues to flounder in second rounds. Can she start off well against a player who is ranked more than 40 places behind her?
Karolina Schmiedlova Has Met with Middling Results
Given her ranking of 126th in the world, not too much is probably expected out of Karolina Schmiedlova on the WTA circuit. The Slovak, however, has managed to win a few of her first round matches in competitions played in 2021.
Karolina Schmiedlova would be particularly proud of the manner in which she made the second round at both, Bastad and Budapest. At both competitions, played in the lead-up to this one, Karolina Schmiedlova was up against a bookmaker’s favourite in her opener.
At Bastad, especially, Karolina Schmiedlova was bagelled in the first set before coming back to beat Clara Burel and then route Irina Begu in the opener at Budapest last week.
That combined with the fact Karolina Schmiedlova did well on clay last year too, having gotten herself a third round berth at French Open and a plethora of wins in exhibition tournaments during the pandemic break. She would like to think she has a chance here.
Blinkova v Karolina Schmiedlova Prediction and Tip
Blinkova, despite been ranked ahead of Karolina Schmiedlova, starts off at 6/4 odds to win this while her opponent is 8/15 here. Backing Karolina Schmiedlova to clinch this in three sets.
