Feliciano Lopez v Denis Kudla Head to Head

Feliciano Lopez and Denis Kudla have been involved in just one head-to-head meeting till date. The pair ran up against each other in the round-robin stage of the 2015 Australian Open, with the Spaniard prevailing in a closely fought five-setter.

Lopez Coming off a Quarterfinal Last Appearance

Though a veteran of 39, Feliciano Lopez is still a handful on a tennis court with his sublime hand skills and can still rival the top stars on his day.

Barring quarter-final finishes at the Open Castilla Y’ Leon, the last event he played in his homeland, and the Mallorca Open, Lopez hasn’t had much to write home about this season.

Having started his season at the Australian Open with an encouraging third-round finish, the 89th-ranked Spaniard couldn’t better his run at the next two Grand Slams, crashing out in the opening rounds at both Roland-Garros and the Wimbledon Championships.

However, the run to the last-eight in his last event will have given him a semblance of confidence going into his Washington opener against Ukraine-born American Denis Kudla.

While not the swiftest of movers anymore, the Madrid-born Lopez can still pack a punch with his groundstrokes and superior net play and his vast experience on the circuit should stand him in good stead as he opens his campaign against Kudla.

Kudla Crashed Out After Successive Wins in Atlanta

Currently ranked just outside the Top-100 in singles, Kudla was sent packing in the third round of the Atlanta Open by Christopher O’Connell of Australia.

Having pocketed the opening set at a canter, the 28-year-old American seemed poised to progress to the next round. However, a sudden and unexplained slump saw him lose his way in the second.

Profiting from Kudla’s lapses, O’Connell breezed to a 6-3 win in the second set and closed out the match in his favor after bagging the third by a similar margin.

With no titles under his belt till date, the American seemed determined to go deep at Los Cabos Open after opening his campaign with a three-set triumph over Thanasi Kokkinakis of Australia.

However, he couldn’t bring home the gravy against compatriot Ernesto Escobedo as he went down fighting, in straight sets.

Lopez v Kudla Prediction and Tip

Although, with his eons of experience and superior skill-sets, Lopez should fancy putting it past Kudla without much trouble. However, as is often the case with underdogs, the American can spring a surprise on the Spaniard if it’s his day to shine.

Tip: Lopez to win in straight sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
