Kaja Juvan v Anna Karolina Schmiedlova Head to Head

It had been a poor run of form for Juvan on clay this season, with the Slovenian having come into this tournament on the back of no wins on this surface across both, the WTA and ITF circuits.
Which is why her first round victory against Marina Melnikova, and the manner in which it came, would have pleased her no end.
Juvan needed just one hour and 11 minutes to get past Melnikova and dropped only two games to come through and clinch the victory. Rather interesting, Juvan did not allow her opponent to hold serve even once, and while she was broken once apiece in both sets that allowed her to get away to a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the end.
Now while this will be a confidence-inducing win as a result, Juvan will know the work has only just begun. She would need to do a lot better than to overcome a 188th-ranked player to get back into proper reckoning.

Schmiedlova Coming off Belgrade Title
Featuring in a WTA 125 tournament last week, Schmiedlova came through a variety of opponents, two of whom were favourites coming into their encounter, to win the title in Belgrade. In the final she defeated Arantxa Rus 6-3, 6-3.
And continuing her form into this tournament in Romania, Schmiedlova started off with a straight-set victory over Viktoria Kuzmova. She won 6-4, 6-2 in an hour and 15 minutes to seal her second round berth with ease.
Schmiedlova and Kuzmova exchanged two breaks of serves apiece to take the scoreline to 4-4 in the first set before the Slovakian player held her own and broke her opponent off her fourth chance to claim the opening set.
And with Kuzmova’s morale broken, Schmiedlova pumelled in a couple more breaks of serves to roll off to an easy victory.
She should not have a lot of worries coming into this one.
