Daria Kasatkina v Caroline Garcia Head to Head

Garcia leads Kasatkina 1-0 although, they last met in the 2019 Wuhan Open where the Frenchwoman won in straight sets.

Garcia Dispatches Bektas with Ease

Caroline Garcia is off to a good start here in San Jose as she defeated the American qualifier Emina Bektas 6-3, 6-4 in the opener. Given the kind of uneventful season she has had so far, she will be hoping to deliver a similar result against her Russian adversary too.

A single semifinal run, which came in the Lausanne Open, is the highlight of her season. In every other tournament, Garcia has been beaten right in the opening rounds. That said, the 27-year-old did reach the third round in the Gippsland Trophy and WTA Dubai but failed to move past that.

Currently ranked #68 on the singles circuit, Garcia has spent the better part of the last few seasons struggling with her form. Case in point, she was in the top 30 in 2019 but has since fallen out owing to her inability to deliver deep, consistent runs.

Kasatkina, Primed for a Deep Run in San Jose

Starting as the number four seed, Daria Kasatkina has enjoyed a bye into the second round.

Having spent the last couple of years on the sidelines, battling with form woes, the 24-year-old Russian has made a strong comeback on the tour in 2021. She is now World No. 31 while around the same time last year, she was ranking in the 60s and 70s.

Her first major breakthrough came in the Phillip Island Trophy where she won her first singles title since October 2018. Almost immediately after that, she won the St. Petersburg Trophy to make a significant leap in the rankings. Additionally, Kasatkina was the runner-up in the Viking Classic Birmingham to make it three singles finals this year.

Over the course of the season, she has also beaten a few big players like Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Iga Swiatek, and Belinda Bencic. Needless to say, Kasatkina is well on track to reclaim her former glory when she was in the top 10.

Kasatkina v Garcia Prediction and Tip

Garcia is in for a challenging match. Kasatkina has had a much better season and is looking quite confident, particularly on hard courts. Expect an entertaining game of tennis where the Russian should come out on the top.
