Kei Nishikori v Lloyd Harris Head to Head

Their only meeting was at the quarter-finals of the Dubai Open earlier this year , where the South African Harris prevailed in three sets.

Nishikori On Strong Run

Kei Nishikori who was once ranked number four in the world, has had a difficult few seasons mixed with injuries, long layoffs, poor form and Covid-19 itself as he is ranked just within the top 70 in the world now.

The Japanese tennis star had a good run last week at his home Olympics in Tokyo,  making the final eight and despite being outplayed by Novak Djokovic, will take pride from his run and victories like the one against world number seven Andrey Rublev in the opening round.

Nishikori was the runner-up at the 2014 US Open as well as semi-finalist in 2016 and arrived in the US looking to rekindle some of that form on these hard courts ahead of the US Open.

He looked to continue his good run from the Olympic week and did well to prevail in straight sets against the likes of the big servers in Sam Querrey in the opener and then more so Alexander Bublik in the second round.

Up against Briton Cameron Norrie in the third round, it was a steeper challenge for the Japanese. Norrie coming off a strong run this year as well as a maiden title earlier last month at Los Cabos may have started as a marginal favorite.

After losing the first set 3-6, Nishikori upped the ante and put pressure on the Norrie serve breaking him in each of the next two sets to seal a three set win and march into the final eight at the US Capital.

Biggest Win Of Career For Harris

Ranked 50th in the world, Lloyd Harris, did not have the best season since he finished runner-up to Aslan Karatsev at the Dubai Open earlier this year, where he incidentally defeated Kei Nishikori en route. However, his game is best suited to the hard courts and he will be hoping for a good run on the North American hard courts this Summer.

While he received a walkover early in the second set from Tennys Sandgren in the previous round, Harris was up against Rafa Nadal who was coming off an injury lay-off and a tricky opener against Jack Sock. The South African got off to a strong start winning the first set and although Nadal fought back for a 6-1 second set, Harris did not taIke his foot off the gas in the decider.

It was an evenly fought set, with Nadal clearly not at his best with his foot; although insisting he felt better in this match than on day one. Harris broke Nadal at a crucial juncture in the third and moved on to register the biggest win for his career and with a wide-open section of the draw to make further inroads.

Nishikori v Harris  Prediction and Tip

Both players are in good touch and this will make for an exciting match. Despite losing their only encounter in Dubai earlier this year, Nishikori will start as the favorite and can be expected to run his experience and form to prevail in a decider.
