Pliskova holds a 5-1 lead over Vekic, having beaten her twice this season already. They last met in Wimbledon where the fourth-seeded Czech prevailed 6-2, 6-2.

Pliskova Looking to Continue on her Resurgence

World No. 6 Karolina Pliskova battled a slump early in the 2021 season as she struggled to deliver deep, penultimate-round performances. It wasn’t until the clay swing that she started to play like her former self, starting with a quarterfinal run in the WTA Stuttgart Open.

A couple of weeks later, she emerged as the runner-up in the Italian Open, losing to Iga Swiatek. That impressive run, however, was immediately followed by another slump that led to Pliskova crash out early in the French Open, Bett1Open, and Eastbourne International.

In Wimbledon, Pliskova found her groove once again by reaching the final – this time, she fell to Ashleigh Barty. Nonetheless, it was still quite an accomplishment as the 29-year-old Czech had made it to her second Grand Slam final.

Pliskova is starting as the number four seed in the Canadian Open this season- a tournament where she has reached the quarterfinal twice, including the 2019 edition.

Vekic Overcomes Van Uytvanck

Former World No. 19 Donna Vekic started her run in Montreal with a clinical 6-1, 6-2 win over Alison Van Uytvanck. Currently ranked #56, Vekic arrived for the competition with a win-loss tally of 9-9 in 2021.

In her defence, the Croat wasn’t that active on the circuit at the start of the season. She missed out on the entirety of the clay swing (except for the French Open) and has started participating in more tournaments only in the last couple of months.

Her best run includes a fourth-round appearance in the Australian Open, a quarterfinal run in Birmingham Classic, and a third-round appearance in the Tokyo Olympics. Most recently, she played in the Silicon Valley Classic in San Jose where she lost to Yulia Putintseva in the first round.

Pliskova v Vekic Prediction and Tip

Pliskova will start this match as the overwhelming favourite. She has the superiority in the head to head tally and is also in a much better form than Vekic.
