Andreas Seppi v Ilya Ivashka Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 37-year old Italian, and the man from Belarus, who is a decade younger.

Can Veteran Seppi Find Some Form?

Seppi is now at the veteran stage of a long career, in which he has won three senior titles and been in seven other finals, on a variety of surfaces. Unlike many Italian players, he is not exclusively a clay court player.

The most recent of those final appearances was his defeat to Kyle Edmund in New York last February, although he does not have such a good record in the Grand Slam played in that city – despite first playing in the US Open back in 2004, he has only once made the third round in Flushing Meadows.

Recent results have been disappointing. Since losing in the second round of Wimbledon, he has only won one match and that was in the first round in Washington.

Prior to that, he was beaten in the first round in Los Cabos and Atlanta, and, subsequently, he failed to get beyond qualification in Cincinnati.

Ivashka’s Best Year on Tour

After eight years as pro on the senior tour, Ivashka has now achieved his highest ever career ranking.

2021 has been a largely successful year for the man from Belarus, with highlights including his first ever win over a top ten layer when he beat home favourite Alexander Zeverev in Munich. He went on to reach the semi-finals in Bavaria before losing to another German Jan-Lennard Struff.

More recently he reached the fourth round in Wimbledon, his best ever showing at a Grand Slam and was picked for the Olympics, where he performed creditably, beating Gael Monfils before losing in the third round.

Since then, he got to the third round in Washington, but lost in qualification for Cincinnati last week, beaten by the Spanish teenager Carlos Alcaraz.

Seppi v Ivashka Prediction and Tip

Ivashka is playing at his peak this year, whilst Seppi is now at the veteran stage of his career. That should mean the man from Belarus will have better legs, and based on recent form, should hold the edge in this encounter.
