Emil Ruusuvuori v Corentin Moutet Head to Head

It will be a first meeting between the two 22-year-olds.

Ruusuvuori Has Lost Form Since Reaching the Atlanta Semifinal

He made an impression at the Miami Open earlier this year, reaching the fourth round of the tournament, and made another impressive run at the Atlanta Open last month, reaching the semifinals before falling to Barndon Nakashima in a tough three-setter.

So overall it’s been decent year for the Finn, who brings a 14-15 season record to Winston Salem, which includes a 12-9 record on hard courts.

Ruusuvuori, who beat Alexander Zverev in the second round in Miami and Cameron Norrie in the quarterfinal in Atlanta, has lost a bit of form over the last three tournaments, but given his liking for hard court surfaces, he will be hoping to regain his touch in the U.S. Open tune-up event.

Since Atlanta, the World no. 71 won one and lost in Washington; he qualified for the Canadian Open the following week, but was eliminated in the first round by Dusan Lajovic; and that defeat was followed by another defeat, as Steve Johnson prevented him from advancing into the second qualifying round in Cincinnati.

Moutet on a Five-Match Losing Streak

Moutet was extremely impressive at the start of the year, reaching the semifinals in Melbourne-2, Round of 16 in Barcelona and the quarterfinals in Estoril, but things haven’t gone his way of late as he heads to Winston-Salem having suffered five consecutive main draw defeats.

The last time Moutet won a main draw match was in Mallorca, when he defeated Lloyd Harris in the first round; since then he went down to Daniil Medvedev in the second round of the grass court event; and to Aljaz Bedene, Sebastian Baez, Daniel Altmaier and Reilly Opelka in the opening rounds of Wimbledon, Hamburg, Umag and Cincinnati respectively.

Qualifying wins over Vasek Pospisil and Alexei Popyrin in Cincinnati this week will give the left-hander some solace, and he will also be encouraged by the way he played against the Toronto finalist this week, forcing the deciding set before going down fighting.

He brings an 11-12 season record to the tournament, and although he has more experience on clay courts, he will be hoping to end his losing streak in the main draws with an opening round win.

Ruusuvuori v Moutet Prediction and Tip

Ruusuvuori will hold the edge in this contest. Expect the Finn to progress and setup a second round clash with fifth seed Alexander Bublik, who received a first-round bye.
