Viktorija Golubic v Rebecca Peterson Head to Head

The head to head tally is currently tied at 1-1. They last met in the 2019 WTA Rabat where Peterson prevailed in straight sets.

Golubic Starts Well

Viktorija Golubic of Switzerland kickstarted her Chicago Open campaign with a 7-6(5), 6-3 win over María Camila Osorio Serrano. The match lasted for an hour and 48 minutes and saw Golubic fumble a bit in the first set with four losses of serves. By the second set, however, she was much more acclimatised to the game and did well to comfortably take the match.

It has been a breakthrough season for the 28-year-old Swiss, who climbed to her career-best singles ranking as World No. 45 after starting the year outside the top 100.

With a win-loss tally of 44-16, Golubic has certainly kept herself busy on the WTA Tour this season. Her highlights include the runner-up feats in the Lyon Open and Monterrey Open and a title run in the WTA125K Saint-Malo.

In the Eastbourne International and Wimbledon Championships, the number six seed reached the quarterfinals to continue her brilliant ascend in the rankings. A few weeks later, she won the silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics with Belinda Bencic in women’s doubles.

By the looks of it, she certainly looks primed to deliver a similar run in the Chicago Open too.

Peterson Survives Bouzkova

Rebecca Peterson’s year so far has been an entirely contrasting one to Golbuc’s, and her slogfest against Marie Bouzkova in the Chicago opener is a strong testimony to that.

Even though the Swede won the match in straight sets, it was by no means an easy one. Both sets went into a tie-break and saw Peterson win with 7-6(11), 7-6(8) in two hours and 49 minutes.

The 26-year-old has had a fairly average season although, there is certainly room for improvement. Currently ranked World No. 59, she was fairly impressive at the start of the tour when she reached the quarterfinal in the Phillip Island Trophy, Serbia Ladies Open, and WTA125 Saint-Malo. In early July, Peterson also reached the semis at her home tournament in the Nordea Open.

Golubic v Peterson Prediction and Tip

Golubic has got everything going for her at the moment and she shouldn’t face any major difficulties in reaching the quarterfinal.
