Begu is 2-0 against the Latvian. She beat Sasnovich for the Seoul title in 2015 and won in the Round of 32 at the Gippsland Trophy earlier this year.

Begu Gets Back-to-Back Straight Set Wins

She knocked out the third seed Ekaterina Alexandrova in the first round on Sunday and got a second straight sets win on Tuesday, defeating Slovenia’s Polona Hercog.

Broken in the third game of the first set, Begu got the break back in the 10th game and then edged out Hercog in the tiebreak to seal the first set in 59 minutes.

The Romanian began the second set with a break but couldn’t serve out the match at 5-4 with Hercog fighting back to make it 5-5. Begu restored the advantage immediately in the next game and then held serve for a 7-6 (7-5), 7-5 victory.

The 31-year-old, who reached the third round of Wimbledon, was a quarterfinalist at the Gippsland Trophy and the Phillip Island Trophy earlier this year.

Sasnovich Edges Podoroska in Three

Sasnovich moved into the last eight of the competition after a draining two-hour-and-49-minute second round win over fifth seed Nadia Podoroska.

The Latvian lost the first set in the tiebreak, but rebounded in the next two to seal the contest 6-7 (7-9), 6-4, 6-4. Saving five of 10 break points, Sasnovich broke her opponent seven times in the contest, which also saw her win 60 percent of her service points and 42 percent return points.

A two-time WTA finalist, the World No. 99 has reached just one other tour-level quarterfinal this year. She began her Cleveland campaign with a 6-4, 7-5 win over America’s Christina Mchale on Monday.

Having struggled to win two matches in a row in most of the tournaments, Sasnovich will be seeing this as a great opportunity to reach her first semifinal of the year.

Begu v Sasnovich Prediction and Tip

Begu will be hoping to keep the perfect record over Sasnovich intact, but the Latvian won’t go out without a fight. Expect a close contest with Begu advancing.
