Zverev In Red-Hot Hard Court Form

The 2020 US Open finalist arrives at the US Open in the midst of a storm related to his life off the court, but also as a strong favorite for the US Open.

Zverev, who is +650 to win the US Open title, has been on a eleven match winning streak on the hard courts and will hope to carry it all the way to the second weekend here in New York.

In what had been a good season for Zverev, winning titles at Acupulco and Madrid, as well as making the quarters at the Aussie Open and semis at the French, things took an even better turn for him post Wimbledon.

Zverev won the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics, defeating Novak Djokovic en route and looked in ominous form last week at the Cincinnati Masters defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andrey Rublev in the latter stages.

He was the runner-up to Dominic Thiem at the 2020 US Open letting go of many chances at the title in that match and will look to take it a step further this time around.

Can Querrey Roll Back The Years?

American Sam Querrey was a Wimbledon semi-finalist in 2017 and made the final eight at the US Open the same year, knocking on the top ten of the ATP ranking and using his big serve and forehand well on the hard courts.

It has been a drop in form and fitness for the American in the last couple seasons and this season has not been much better.

After losing his openers at Australian Open and Miami Open, Querrey looked to have found some of his rhythm back on grass making the finals of the ATP 250 in Mallorca where he was runner-up to Daniil Medvedev.

Another string of poor results followed with a second round loss at Wimbledon, followed by opening round losses at Newport and Los Cabos. If the American was hoping that a switch to the US hard courts would change fortunes, that was setback by another first round loss last week in Atlanta by German Peter Gojowczyk.

With a number of hard court events on the calendar in August, Querrey was  looking to get into the winning habit and confident sooner rather than later. But, an early exit at the Citi Open in Washington DC has been the last of Querrey on the US hard courts and he will hope to bring his best game in his uphill opener.

Zverev v Querrey Prediction and Tip

While Querrey is not the player he was couple seasons ago, Zverev comes in as one of the favorites here for the title.  Although Querrey has had good runs here and may take a set off the German, Zverev should prevail comfortably and began his campaign with confidence.

Tip: Zverev  to win in three sets: 4/9 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
