Zverev Begins In Convincing Fashion

The 2020 US Open finalist arrived at the US Open in the midst of a storm related to his life off the court, but also as a strong favorite for the US Open.

Zverev, had been on a eleven match winning streak on the hard courts and hoped to carry it all the way to the second weekend here in New York.

Up against American veteran Sam Querrey in the opener, the match was not as much of a good match-up as one may think, given Querrey’s poor run of form in recent times as well as how short he has been on match practice.

Zverev continued his strong run of form with a straight sets win serving and covering the court well with a 6-4,7-5,6-2 win against the American veteran and improving to 12-0 on the hard courts since after Wimbledon.

Seeded fourth, the German has been earmarked as one of the pre-tournament favorites and exhibited form in the opener well worthy of that tag.

Hard Courts Not Favorite Of Ramos-Vinalos

A specialist on the clay courts, it has been an indifferent hard court season for Spain’s Albert Ramos-Vinalos. The Spaniard did well to defeat Taylor Fritz in Cincinnati but that was his only win in the US Open series coming into the US Open.

Up against Frenchman Lucas Pouille in the opener, it was not going to be easy but the Spaniard was aware that Pouille had been rusty and short of match practice.

After Ramos-Vinalos did well to win the opening set, Pouille came back to win the next two sets, but a strong showing from the Spaniard took advantage of the Frenchman still somewhat low on stamina. Ramos-Vinalos claimed the last two sets for a five set win and a spot in the second round here in New York.

Zverev v Ramos-Vinalos Prediction and Tip

Zverev has been in excellent form on the hard courts and that continued into his opener here as well. Not a lot of tools for Ramos-Vinalos to challenge the German with on the hard courts. Expect a straight sets win for Zverev.

Tip: Zverev  to win in three sets: 4/9 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
