Greetje Minnen v Liudmila Samsonova Head to Head
The pair have met twice before, and Minnen has won on each occasion. Both matches were in 3019, on the clay of Stuttgart, and on hard courts in Limoges, and each time the Belgian won in straight sets.

Minnen’s First Win in New York
This is Minnen’s second appearance in New York, and the first time she has reached the second round, after pulling off a minor surprise in her opening match by beating the Argentine, Nadia Podoroska, the WTA Newcomer of the Year in 2020 after her appearance in the French Open semi-final.
It was the Argentine, though, ranked 37 in the world, who began badly, dropping her opening service games.
The pair swapped breaks but Minnen held on to her lead, saving two break back points to take the first set.
Podoroska hit back strongly in the second set, breaking Minnen in successive games to level the match.
But it was her serve that came under the greater pressure in the third set and she finally cracked, giving Minnen the chance to close out the match.
She made hard work of it and had four match points saved, but the fifth ultimately counted.

Samsonova Brushes Aside Qualifier
Like her opponent, Samsonova had never won a match at the US Open before Tuesday, but she does have more experience in Grand Slams, having reached the fourth round of Wimbledon this year.
She was given a relatively kind draw on paper against the British qualifier, Katie Boulter, the world number 190, and she dealt with the challenge comparatively easily.
Boulter was broken early in the first set, and that ultimately proved to be sufficient. Boulter had break back points and Samsonova had chances to move even further ahead, but that one break was enough to earn the Russian ahead.
And when Boulter was broken again early in the second set, her hopes began to recede. Samsonova broke her again and served out next game.
Minnen v Samsonova Prediction and Tip
Despite Minnen having won their two previous matches, Samsonova will start the favourite as the higher ranked layer, and the one with greater experience in Grand Slam events.
