The 2021 French Open champion has reached the fourth round of the U.S. Open on her debut, defeating lucky loser Kamilla Rakhimova in the third round on Friday.

Krejcikova, who also made it to the Round of 16 on her Wimbledon debut this year, needed just 73 minutes to dispatch the Russian 6-4, 6-2. She wasn’t broken in the match by Rakhimova, while she converted all three of her break points to end the lucky loser’s run.

The World No. 9 was equally dominant in her first two rounds, beating Astra Sharma 6-0, 6-4 in the opening round, and American Christina McHale 6-3, 6-1 in the round of 64.

Muguruza Wins Battle of Former No. 1s

The ninth seed Spaniard reached the second week of the New York major for only the second time in her ninth appearance as she knocked out last year’s runner-up Victoria Azarenka on Friday.

The winner of the French Open and Wimbledon titles in 2016 and 2017 respectively, Muguruza converted six of 15 break points and saved five of nine to beat the No. 18 seed 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 in two hours and 15 minutes. Generating great power, the Spaniard struck 34 winners and made just 24 unforced errors against Azarenka’s 23 winners and 30 unforced errors.

Muguruza had begun the tournament by beating Donna Vekic 7-6, 7-6 in two hours and 19 minutes, but had an easy  second round win over Andrea Petkovic, beating the German 6-4, 6-2 in just an hour and 29 minutes.

The World No. 10, who claimed the WTA 1000 title in Dubai this year, was a runner-up at the Yarra Valley Classic and in Doha. She, however, went off the boil after a stunning start to the season, but with three solid wins she seems to be back in form.
