Back-To-Back Slam Quarters For Auger-Aliassime

Canadian Next Gen star Felix Auger-Aliassime came into the fourth round of the US Open looking much more confident after his epic five set win in the previous round against gritty Spaniard veteran Roberto Bautista Agut.

Up against Frances Tiafoe also coming off a spirited win against the number five seed Andrey Rublev, the Canadian was aware that the New York crowd that rooted for him the other night will be well behind the American and that is something he will need to deal with.

Tiafoe was off to a strong start breaking his opponent early and despite eight break points for Auger-Aliassime, the American closed the first set 6-4.

The number 12 seed from Canada came back strong in the second serving well and breaking Tiafoe twice as the latter’s form wavered a little for a 6-2 second set win.

The third set was evenly matched with Tiafoe saving two set points at 4-5 and then Auger- Aliassime saved set point in the  tiebreak. The Canadian eventually won the third set 8-6 putting the pressure back on Tiafoe.

Broken early in the fourth, there was no coming back for Tiafoe as Auger-Aliassime booked a first US Open quarter-final with a four set win, making it to back-to-back major quarters for him following up his quarter final appearance at Wimbledon earlier this summer.

Alcaraz Dream Run Continues

18-year-old Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz came into his fourth round encounter with German qualifier Peter Gojowczyk, fresh off his breakout win against world number three Stefanos Tsitsipas in an epic five-setter that made many earmark young Alcaraz as a future world number one.

It was a different challenge for the Spaniard against the German Gojowczk as the players got off a little shaky with Alcaraz getting the first break of the match.

The German broke back and clinched the 7-5, only to capitulate in next set for a 6-1 Alcaraz win. Another tight third set follow which was won by Gojowczyk.

Just when the young Spaniard looked own and out, he hung in for a five set win dropping only two games in the last two sets, aided somewhat by an injury concern for the German and in turn becoming the youngest US Open quarterfinalist in the Open era.

Auger-Aliassime v Alcaraz Prediction and Tip

Both players are in the midst of a strong run this US Open coming off draining and pulsating matches in their last two rounds respectively.

While Alcaraz has been the star breakout of the tournament so far, Auger-Aliassime is establishing himself on the biggest stage finally displaying more consistency in the majors.

Expect a good contest but the more experienced Auger- Aliassime starts as a decent favorite and should prevail in a four setter.
