Yastremska and Paoliini have never played each other before. However, both both are fairly new to professional women’s tennis and will itching to get at each other in their first-ever head-to-head clash.

Coming into the US Open on the back of a decent third-round finish at the Cincinnati Masters, Yastremska drew three-time Grand Slam champion Angelique Kerber in the first round.
And, in line with the pre-match estimates, the match ended in defeat for the Ukrainian. However, Yastremska did make a match of it and there was a moment in the game when she even threatened to run away with the contest.
Currently ranked 51st in singles, the Ukrainian bossed the early exchanges as her seasoned opponent was slow to get off the blocks. The aggressive tennis that she brought to bear on her rival bore fruit as she took the opening set 6-3.
Jolted by her defeat in the opening set, the German came out all guns blazing lifted her game by a fair few notches to wrest the momentum from the Ukrainian.
In the face of the German’s counter punch, Yastremska lost her way. With a spring in her step after taking the contest to a decider, Kerber pipped Yastremska in the third-set tiebreak to eventually get over the line.
The resolute fight that the Ukrainian put up in the first set would surely have put her in the good space going into the first round clash against Italian Jasmine Paolini at the Slovenian Open.
Though unheralded in the circuit, the Ukrainian would do well not to take Paolini lightly in her tournament opener.

Paolini Fell in Round 2 of US Open
Taking the confidence from her last-16 finish at the Chicago Women’s Open, Paolini launched her US Open campaign with a first-round outing against Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan.
Defying most pre-match estimates, the Italian brought early pressure to bear on her opponent and took the opening set by a comfortable margin. Keeping her foot on the pedal to ensure that there was no way back into the contest for Shvedova, Paolini coasted to a win in the second set as well to cap off a dominating performance.
She did put up a fight against two-time Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka in her next but it wasn’t enough to stop the veteran Belarussian star from closing out a win in straight sets.
In Yastremska, the Italian has a difficult hurdle to cross in the opening round of the Slovenian Open on Monday. However, the fight she showed against Azarenka would put her in good stead going into the clash.
