That same year she was beaten in the final of the doubles of the Italian Open, where she was partnered by the Romanian Raluca Olaru.

Her recent results though have been disappointing, started with the French Open where she was beaten in the third round of qualifying. She also failed to qualify for Wimbledon and the US Open, although, sandwiched between that she travelled to the Olympics to play for Germany.

Friedsam did win her first match beating Heather Watson of Great Britain, but her run in Tokyo was ended by Pavlyuchenkova again.
