Alison Riske v Viktoria Kuzmova Head to Head

This will be a first meeting between the World No. 38 Riske and World No. 149 Kuzmova.

Riske Tested By Lovric

There haven’t been too many moments to celebrate for Alison Riske this year, however the American did see off unheralded Slovenian Pia Lovric in the first round on Tuesday to register just her fifth win of the season.

The World No. 38, who had come in with a 4-11 season record, needed an hour and 39 minutes to beat the World No. 632 Lovric 7-5, 6-3. The 31-year-old had a tough time in dispatching the Slovenian.

The match began with four consecutive break of serves before both players settled in with their service games. The American broke again to go up 5-4, but couldn’t serve out the set with the determined Lovric refusing to give up. But Riske got a fourth break of the set the next game and then held on to the lead to go a set up.

Riske was much better in the second set. Broken once, she dropped just four points on her serve in the entire set, while breaking her opponent three times.

The 2019 Wimbledon quarterfinalist, who hasn’t won two matches in a row this year, will be hoping to end the trend on Wednesday and make it to the last eight stage for the first time since reaching the quarterfinals in Brisbane last year.

Kuzmova Eases Past Mrdeza

Slovakia’s Viktoria Kuzmova carried her qualifying round form into the main draw, defeating Croatia’s Tereza Mrdeza in the first round on Tuesday.

Dominating the proceedings, Kuzmova converted five of seven break points on her way to a 6-2, 6-3 win in an hour and 28 minutes. The Slovak had beaten Italy’s Stefania Rubini 6-3, 6-1 in the first qualifying round and then edged past another Italian, Lucrezia Stefanini 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 in the second qualifying round.

The win improved Kuzmova to 12-15 from all competitions this season.

A quarterfinalist on the hard courts of Monterrey and Prague, the Slovak will aim to reach the last eight for a third time this season.

Riske v Kuzmova Prediction and Tip

Riske is the higher ranked player and also the third seed, so many will have her as the favourite, but given the way things have turned out this season, she may struggle to get through the second round. Also, Kuzmova was more convincing in her first round match than Riske was in hers. There is a good chance of an upset in this match, with Kuzmova going through with a tough win.
