Vasek Pospisil v Gregoire Barrere Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 31-year old Canadian, and his French opponent, who is four years younger.

Pospisil Struggling for Form in 2021

Pospisil is a Grand Slam winner, having clinched the Wimbledon doubles with Jack Sock back in 2014, the same year he reached his highest ever world ranking, and lost in the final of the Washington Open.

Two mor e final appearances followed last year, in Montpellier and Sofia, both of which also ended in defeats, but that form seems to have deserted him in 2021, at least in singles, although he did finish runner-up in doubles at Newport two months ago.

The Canadian’s best recent result was at Eastbourne where he got to the third round. Since then, it has been a series of first or second round defeats and he failed to qualify for Cincinnati.

However, he did pull off something of a surprise by beating the world number 32, Fabio Fognini of Italy, in five sets in the first round of the US Open, before he was well beaten by Ilya Ivashka of Belarus in his next match.

Barrere Handed a Wildcard on Home Soil

Barrere has been given a wildcard for what is a home event for him, his current world ranking not enough to earn him automatic entry into the main draw.

He was once ranked as high as 80 in the world, but several years of injury and struggles with form have seen him slip down the standings.

The French player has never won a senior ATP tournament, but has enjoyed success on the junior tours and reached his first final in two years on home in Lille in March, although he was beaten by the Belgian Zizou Bergs on that occasion.

Since qualifying for Wimbledon, but then losing in the first round, Barrere has stuck exclusively to the Challenger circuit in Europe.

He reached a semi-final in Pozoblanco, Spain,  and the third round in St, Tropez, before losing in the first round on home soil in Cassis. Last week in Rennes he got to the second round before losing to Liam Broady of Great Britain in three sets.

Pospisil v Barrere Prediction and Tip

Pospisil is struggling for form in 2021, but he is facing an opponent who has been having his own battles to rediscover previous performance levels, and is more used to be found nowadays on the Challenger tour. That should give the Canadian the edge.
