John Millman v James Duckworth Head to Head

Millman and Duckworth have actually never played in the main draw at tour-level before this. But they have contested two meetings in their series; first in the Australian Open wild card playoff in 2010 (which Duckworth won in straight sets), and the qualifying rounds of the Beijing Open in 2015 in which the 32-year-old Millman was victorious.

Millman Survived Munar Scare

It goes without saying that John Millman embodies the spirit of an Iron Man. And in a three-hour epic in the Round of 16, he showed his battling qualities to outlast the defiant Jamie Munar, winning 6-4 6-7 7-5 to keep his title defense alive.

The 32-year-old Brisbane native whose lone ATP Tour title came on these parts almost a year ago, has extended his winning streak in Nur Sultan to six matches. Both of his two outings this week have gone the distance, and Millman had the legs to outsprint his younger opponents.

Against Munar, the match hung in the balance when it was stretched into a third set after the Spaniard pinched the second set tiebreak against the run of play. But Millman earned a crucial break to love in the 11th game of the decider and served out for victory – converting on his fourth match point.

Overall, Millman remained positive despite expending too much energy in his two matches. But could he be the protagonist of his own downfall when he takes his fellow countryman on Friday?

Duckworth Defeats Krajinovic

Australia’s in-form man right now is most certainly James Duckworth. For a country replete with the talent of the mobile Alex De Minaur, that may come as a surprise. But Duckworth has been in tremendous form in the past few weeks highlighted by his title win at the Istanbul Challenger.

Duckworth dropped just a single set in Turkey’s second city en route to his 12th ATP Challenger crown, and he has carried that momentum in Nur Sultan where he picked up victories over the likes of Mikhail Kukushkin and Filip Krajinovic.

Sitting at a career-high ranking of world no. 65, Duckworth produced masterful serving to beat Krajinovic on Thursday. He posted some staggeringly good numbers behind both his first and second serves.

Duckworth won 27 out of 31 points behind his first delivery, and he did not face a single break point during the entire one-hour 30-minute contest. After taking the first set in a tiebreak, the 29-year-old Aussie broke Krajinovic twice in the second set to seal the victory.

Millman v Duckworth Prediction and Tip

It is no coincidence that Duckworth is serving consistently well this season after finding the antidote to his shoulder problems. Now on a seven-match winning streak, he looks in great shape to take down his fellow countryman here.
