Andrey Rublev v Diego Schwartzman Head to Head

Their only meeting was at the opening round of the 2017 French Open, which the Argentine won 9-7 in the fifth set.

Rublev At Home On Indoor Hard Courts

It has been a good season and a half for Rublev, breaking into the top 10, winning a number of ATP 500s and consistently being in the reckoning at the Masters events.

The World No. 7 reached a second Masters 1000 final of the season during the US Open Series in Cincinnati but is yet to win a debut Masters title as he was handed a one -sided loss by fellow Next Gen Alexander Zverev.

He will not be thrilled with recent performances at the majors, with a quarter-final loss to Medvedev in Melbourne , but disappointing performances at the French Open (opening round loss) and Wimbledon ( collapse after up two sets to one against Marton Fucsovics) undoing much of the good work elsewhere.

A most recent round of 32 loss to Frances Tiafoe in a five-setter at the US Open would have also left the Russian further disappointed.

As Rublev makes his debut at the Laver Cup, he will be confident given the surface and playing style for the indoor hard courts.

Schwartzman Hoping To Make a Mark Despite Surface Challenges

Diego Schwartzman of Argentina returns to the Laver Cup after having lost a tight match to David Goffin 11-9 in the match tiebreak in the second edition in Chicago in 2018.

It has been  a mixed season for Schwartzman, with moments of brilliance interspersed with heartbreaking losses, like the one inflicted by Roberto Bautista Agut in Canada.

His calendar for the season thus far includes a title success in Buenos Aires, and a quarterfinal finish at Roland Garros, where he took the first set of Rafael Nadal, before bowing out in four sets.

Having thrown away three match points in his Round of 16 defeat to Roberto Bautista Agut in Toronto, Schwartzman has looked like a man low on confidence and belief this season. This was again evident in his five set loss to Botik Van De Zandschulp in the round of 16 at the US Open where he failed to press home the initiative after an excellent fourth set win.

While clay brings the best out of Schwartzman, he is a pretty decent player on hard courts as well, with five of his 11 finals coming on the surface. But Los Cabos 2019 remains his only hard court title, with the other three triumphs coming on clay.

The Argentine will hope to revive his indifferent season with a strong showing here in Boston.

Rublev v Schwartzman Prediction and Tip

Although one can never discount Schwartzman’s grit and fighting spirt, the surface and shorter format is skewed towards Rublev. Expect a straight sets win for the Russian.
