Belinda Bencic v Anett Kontaveit Head to Head

Kontaveit holds a 1-0 lead over the Swiss, last defeating her in the 2020 Australian Open third round with 6-0, 6-1.

Bencic Starts Strong

Belinda Bencic is off to a good start here in Ostrava as she defeated Sara Sorribes Tormo in the opener in straight sets. With a bye into the second round, the Swiss had to work only for an hour and 30 minutes to reach the quarters with 6-2, 6-3.

The Olympic Gold medalist will now look to go beyond into the semis and post a result better than her last performance at the Luxembourg Open, where she fell at this stage to Liudmila Samsonova.

But apart from that, Bencic has had a highly consistent run on the tour in the last couple of months. Following that gold run in Tokyo, Bencic reached the quarterfinal in Cincinnati and US Open, upsetting the likes of Karolina Muchova and Iga Swiatek.

Even earlier in the season, the World No. 11 reached the final in two WTA events – Adelaide and Berlin but lost in both those finals respectively to Swiatek and Samsonova.

Kontaveit, Yet to Drop a Set in Ostrava

World No. 30 Anett Kontaveit is off to a good start in WTA Ostrava, moving past Sorana Cirstea and Paula Badosa in straight sets. She will now face her toughest test yet in Bencic.

Considering the season she has had in 2021, she will more than fancy her chances against the Swiss.

Most recently, the Estonian won the WTA Cleveland after beating Irina-Camelia Begu in the final and followed it with a third-round appearance in the US Open. That was her third singles final in 2021 – Kontaveit also shared the winner’s cup in the Grampians Trophy with Ann Li and settled for the runners-up trophy in Eastbourne International.

Of course, there have been instances where Kontaveit has failed to deliver – she lost four opening matches consecutively from Wimbledon through to Cincinnati Open. That said, when in the form, she is a tough player to beat.

Bencic v Kontaveit Prediction and Tip
