Petra Kvitova v Anett Kontaveit Head to Head

The two players have quite a bit of history between them. Kvitova leads Kontaveit 5-2, having won three of their last four meetings.

Their most recent one was in Doha this season where the Czech won 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 to move on and eventually win the title.

Kvitova, Looking to Go the Distance in Ostrava

Playing in her ‘home’ tournament, number two seed Petra Kvitova is just two wins away from winning the title in Ostrava.

After surviving a minor hiccup against Anastasia Potapova in the opener in round two, she moved past Jil Teichmann with absolute ease. The former World No. 2 needed just an hour and 37 minutes to reach the semis as she moved past the Swiss 6-4, 6-4.

Currently ranked World No. 10, the two-time Wimbledon champion has had a rather muted spell in 2021 by her standards. Case in point, her best run in the last few tournaments came in the Cincinnati Open where she reached the quarters. This performance was sandwiched between third-round exits in Montreal and the US Open.

But not all has been bad for the 31-year-old – she kept herself afloat in the top 10 for the most part of the year with some deep runs in Miami, Stuttgart, and Madrid.

That said, her title run in Doha marked a historic feat as she became one of the few tennis players to win a WTA singles title across three decades.

Kontaveit Topples Bencic

Clearly in line with the fabulous season she has had in 2021, Anett Kontaveit knocked out the Olympic gold winner Belinda Bencic in the quarterfinals in Ostrava.

Need just an hour and 15 minutes, the Estonian prevailed in straight sets with 6-4, 6-3 to reach yet another semifinal. The other players she has left in her wake here are the rising Spaniard Paula Badosa and the veteran Romanian Sorana Cirstea.

Kontaveit has been fairly impressive in the last few tournaments – notably winning the Cleveland Open and later reaching the third round in the US Open. Earlier in the season, she also reached the final at the Grampians Trophy and Eastbourne International. That said, the World No. 30 hasn’t entirely been the most consistent performer on the tour this season, seeing that she dropped down from the #21 position which she held back in January.

Nonetheless, the 25-year-old has already built an impressive list of highly-ranked players she has beaten in the past, including Kvitova on two occasions (most recent being in 2019).

Kvitova v Kontaveit Prediction and Tip

After battling with form woes in the last few tournaments, Ostrava may just be the place where Kvitova finally manages to break the jinx and reach the final.

Expect a good game of tennis which may see all three sets.
