Jil Belen Teichmann v Marketa Vondrousova Head to Head
The pair have never played each other once before, this will be the first meeting between the 24 year old Swiss, and the Czech, who is two years younger.
Teichmann Brushes Aside Pole
Teichmann had made hard work of defeating the Estonian veteran Kaia Kanepi in the first round, but she produced an altogether more assured performance again the Polish number two, Magda Linette, in her next match on Wednesday.
She took control of the match against the world number 54 with an early break in the first set, and then consolidated her position with another break , serving out for the set next game.
The second set went with serve until the seventh game when Linette was broken again. The Pole saved two match points in her next service game, but Teichmann was then able to serve out for the match.
The Swiss player had faced just one break point against her in the entire match.
Vondrousova Emulates Last Appearance in Chicago
The last time she competed in Chicago, Vondrousova reached the third round and she has done so again after two successive straight set victories.
First she trounced Ajla Tomjlanovic of Australia, a woman ranked just three places lower than her in the world rankings for the loss of just three games.
And then she produced an arguably better performance on Wednesday to knock Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova of Russia, the world number 13, and fourth seed, out of the tournament.
The Czech began strongly securing an early break, and then consolidating her position with another.
The Russian grabbed one of them back, but was immediately broken again and the set belonged to Vondrousova.
A sequence of three dropped service games in the middle of the second set saw the Czech go a break up, and, when it came to Pavlyuchenkova’s turn to serve to stay in the match, she could not cope with the pressure and lost the second match point against her.
Teichmann v Vondrousova Prediction and Tip
