Siniakova Has had a Decent Year So Far

It’s been a decent year for the 25-year-old Siniakova, who brings a 22-17 season record to Indian Wells.

The Czech player, who won the doubles gold at the Olympics and a second French Open title, both with Barbora Krejcikova, reached the finals in Hamburg in June, finishing runner-up to Angelique Kerber.

It was a sixth tour-level final for the two-time winner, and a first since 2018.

Recently, Siniakova reached the quarterfinals in Prague and Cleveland but made early exits from her last two tournaments. She was knocked out by Maria Sakkari in the second round at the U.S. Open and was beaten in a tough three-setter by Tereza Martincova in Ostrava.

Siniakova has featured in all of the previous five editions at Indian Wells, delivering her best result in 2017, when she reached the Round of 32.

Clijsters Into Her Second Tournament This Season

Kim Clijsters made her season debut last week at the Chicago Fall Classic and went down fighting against Hsieh Su-wei in three sets. On Wednesday, the former No. 1 will feature at Indian Wells for the first time in 10 years. The last time she featured in the tournament, Clijsters reached the Round of 16 before having to retire.

A two-time former champion, Clijsters beat Lindsey Davenport in the finals in 2003 and 2005.

Currently ranked 1476 in the world, the 38-year-old last won a singles match in 2012 in the first round at the U.S. Open. She retired from the sport that year but came out of retirement last season, only to lose all three of her matches to Garbine Muguruza in Dubai, Johanna Konta in Monterrey and Ekaterina Alexandrova at the U.S. Open.

Can the four-time Grand Slam winner claim a first victory in nine years?
