Sock Continues Return To Tour

Jack Sock was once ranked in the top ten in the world, being ranked number eight on the tour in late 2017 after winning the Paris Masters 1000 and qualifying for the ATP Tour Finals in London.

It has been a disappointing last couple seasons with injuries, lay-offs and disappointing form. Married and refreshed and having taken a break from the pandemic, the American returned to the ATP Challenger Tour and remained upbeat about his return to the main tour, as he sought to make a comeback from his world number 229 ranking.

Sock showed signs of the sort of form that once made him a top ten player and brought him four career titles before a loss of form and a long injury lay-off derailed his career.

The American made the quarter-finals at the Hall of Fame Open in Newport before losing out to eventual winner Kevin Anderson and lost in the round of 16 to John Isner in Atlanta. He also played against Rafael Nadal in the second round of the Citi Open in Washington DC and had the 20-time major winner on the ropes before Nadal’s experience bailed him out.

In his return to the US Open, was a very impressive two rounds for the American. He defeated Yoshihito Nishioka of Japan in the opening round and then won an epic five-setter against up and coming Kazakh Alexander Bublik in the next, returning to a third round of a major again and looking to rekindle the form that saw him in the top ten of the ATP rankings a few seasons ago.

Up against Alexander Zverev in the round of 32, Sock did well to win the first set but just when he was looking promising he was done by a thigh injury and thus unable to give his best and lost in four sets.

Sock will be looking to continue his return to the tour and hoping to move up the rankings and increase his confidence with a good run of results on the remainder of the season.

Millman Looking For Revival In the Desert

It has been a mixed season for Aussie John Millman who dropped out of the top 50 in the ATP rankings earlier this summer.

Millman who is well suited to the hard courts was unable to defend his Nur-Sultan title a fortnight ago and after looking good at the Sofia Open last week, lost convincingly to American Marcos Giron in the final eight.

His recent run of form has not been his consistent self with his Olympic journey ending at the second round stage, and then he went one round further in Washington before losing to the young American Jenson Brooksby.  From there he went to Toronto, where he lost to Gael Monfils, despite taking the first set in their second round encounter.

Any hopes, though, of a good run at the US open were ended when he suffered a surprise opening round loss to the Swiss qualifier Henri Laaksonen, the world number 116.

Coming from Brisnane, Millman will be used to the desert temperatures at Indian Wells and lookin to end his 2021 season on a strong note.

Sock v Millman Prediction and Tip

Both players are looking to revive their careers to what they were once at, keeping in mind that the field continues to get more competitive and they are not any younger.

Expect a tight contest with two gritty competitors; the American should squeeze out a decider.
