Laslo Djere v Gilles Simon Head to Head

Djere and Simon have not played each other before this.

Djere Seeks Further Improvement Indoors

Laslo Djere has not been particularly impressive on hard courts, but he is still a player very much capable of producing the odd upset on the surface. Take for instance on the indoor hard courts of Nur-Sultan where he made the last eight, and shocking the out-of-form Lorenzo Musetti in the process.

But far from it, Djere is vulnerable on this surface, and even the slow courts in Sofia couldn’t prevent him from losing to Filip Krajinovic over two weeks ago.

Last week, he did not scale the first hurdle in Indian Wells. He led big-serving American Maxime Cressy by a set, but ultimately fell in three sets.

The Serbian’s best results have once more been registered on his beloved clay courts. He reached his only final of 2021 in Cagliari and made a further two semifinal showings in Hamburg and Gstaad respectively. He will make his third visit to Moscow for the prestigious ATP 500 tournament.

Simon’s Dry Spell Continues

When it comes to a barren spell of bad form, Gilles Simon is right on top of the worst=performing players in 2021. It has been a hard watch to say the least for the former World No. 6.

And to further riff the pain, the Frenchman could be winding down his tennis career if this crisis is not averted. Simon hasn’t spoken about his desire to retire from the game just yet, but it is pertinent to note that he took some time off earlier this season as a result of motivational and mental health issues.

Now ranked outside the world’s Top 100 and with little chance of turning his fortunes around, Simon enters the Kremlin Cup with a protected ranking. He has been playing a lot on the Challenger tour for the last 18 months in order to build on his shattered confidence,

With a measly four wins all year, Simon’s chances of producing an upset on Monday are slim.

Djere v Simon Prediction and Tip

Simon is in dreadful form and it would be a major surprise if he pulls the rabbit out of the hat in this one. Djere, for all of his dubious record on hard courts, should sail into the second round.
