In the second, the Russian found himself 0-2 down, but he came back well, breaking the Frenchman three more times to clinch the contest 6-4, 6-3 in an hour and 27 minutes.
The second seed, who had received a first-round bye, had also won the Round of 16 clash against Egor Gerasimov with the same scoreline, but wasn’t broken by the Belarusian in that match.
The 28-year-old improved to 32-18 for the season. He had a terrific start to the season, reaching the semifinals of the Australian Open on his Grand Slam debut and also won his maiden ATP title in Dubai. He also reached the final in Belgrade, by defeating Novak Djokovic in the semifinals, but following that runner-up finish, he reached just one quarterfinal in 13 tournaments leading up to the Kremlin Cup.
Now into the semifinal, he will be aiming to reach a third career final on Saturday.
