Ilya Ivashka v Laslo Djere Head to Head

In their one and only encounter on the ATP Tour in the 2018 Marseille Open, Ivashka emerged as the winner with 6-3, 6-1.

Ivashka, Enjoying a Career-Defining Season

27-year-old Ilya Ivashka arrived in St. Petersburg with a record of 29-14 and a ranking of World No. 46 – a first for him in his career.

The Belarusian has had a fine run of late, winning the singles title in Winston-Salem and later reaching the third-round in the US Open and semifinal at the ATP Nur-Sultan. Ivashka most recently participated in the Sofia Open but withdrew from his second-round bout against Gael Monfils.

Looking at this overall season, he has been proficient across all turfs, making him a force to be reckoned with.

His highlights of the season entail a semifinal run in the Munich Open where he was a semifinalist (defeating Alexander Zverev en route), a quarterfinal appearance in Eastbourne International and a fourth-round run at Wimbledon.

Djere, Battling Form Woes

Laslo Djere, ranked six places below his Belarusian opponent, is coming off a disappointing run on the ATP Tour.

The 26-year-old most recently lost his first-round matches in the Indian Wells Open and ATP Moscow as he now looks to deliver a positive turnaround. But going by the form of his rival, it is a tall order to deliver.

A majority of the Serbian’s season has ended in early rounds, as evident from his record of 23-24. Except for reaching the final in ATP Cagliari (where he ultimately lost to Lorenzo Sonego) and a handful of deep runs, Djere has had a largely mundane, inconsistent season.

One reason for this may be the fact that Djere is a clay-court specialist – and most of his success this year can be attributed to his likeness for the surface. After settling for the runner-up trophy in Italy, he later reached the third round in French Open, and semifinal in Gstaad and Hamburg back to back. Thereafter, the season switch to hard courts and he lost that newly-found momentum.

Ivashka v Djere Prediction and Tip

Ivashka will start this match as the favourite on account of his overall form and rhythm. He has been consistent in hard-court events whereas Djere is just 5-11 on the surface this year. Since the winner of this match will play the top seed Andrey Rublev next, expect a good game of tennis where both will look to up their game significantly.
