Pablo Carreno Busta v Hugo Gaston Head to Head

Busta and Gaston have been involved in just one career head-to-head meeting till date. Their pair ran into each other in the first round of Paris Masters last year, with the Spaniard winning in straight sets.

Busta Atoned For Vienna Defeat with Bercy Win

Coming into  the Paris Masters carrying the hurt from an ignominious opening-round defeat to Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili at the Vienna Open, Busta drew veteran Frenchman Benoit Paire in his tournament opener.

Desperate to make amends after falling to a shock defeat in the Austrian capital, the current World No.17 bossed the early passage of play and cashed in on a clear lead to take the opening set by a comfortable margin.

Wary of taking his foot off the pedal, the Spaniard produced a similarly dominant performance in the second to close out an emphatic 6-3, 6-4 victory.

The win saw the experienced campaigner set up a second-round outing against up and coming French player Hugo Gaston. Though currently lying just outside the top-100 in singles, the Frenchman did well to clear the qualifying hurdles and go  the first round to be paired opposite Busta in his next.

Memories of his win in their only previous head-to-head meeting, which coincidentally came at the same event last year, will stand the Spaniard in good stead going into Wednesday’s clash.

Gaston Will Bank on Home Support Against Busta

Having finished in the second round of his last event, a Challenger in France, Gaston was determined to give a better account of himself at the marquee Paris Masters.

Living up to his promise, the young Frenchman produced stellar performances to score back-to-back qualifying wins over veteran South African star Kevin Anderson and rising Italian Lorenzo Musetti to make the main tournament draw.

Opening his campaign proper against fellow countryman Arthur Rinderknech, the 103rd-ranked Gaston showed why he is rated highly back home as he staged a remarkable fightback after conceding the opening set to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

However, his real test begins in the second round where he will face a vastly experienced and a significantly more accomplished rival in Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta.

The Spaniard opened his campaign with a thumping win over Benoit Paire and Gaston, who lost his only previous head-to-head clash with Busta, will have to play somewhere close to his best to level the score.

However, with the home crowd firmly behind him, the Frenchman won’t be short on motivation and support to wish for a win on Wednesday.

Busta v Gaston Prediction and Tip

While Busta holds the aces going into this second-round clash on Wednesday, Gaston has played to reach round 2 and will fancy conjuring up something special in front of his home fans.
