Hubert Hurkacz v Tommy Paul Head to Head

Hurkacz and Paul have not played each competitively on the ATP tour, but did meet at the UTR Pro Series during tennis’ suspension last year. The Pole defeated the American in two separate matches.

No Margin For Error For Hurkacz

After his first-round defeat to Andy Murray in Vienna last week, Hurkacz Hurkacz cannot afford another early exit in Paris. If it happens at the hands of Tommy Paul this week, Hurkacz’s hopes of qualifying for his maiden ATP Finals will go up in smoke.

The Pole couldn’t quite grind out a win over a resurgent Murray last time out, and will be keen to atone for that demoralizing defeat. The good thing is that Hurkacz still has fate firmly in his hands in order to secure his place among the ATP’s eight elite.

Already a Masters 1000 champion this year when he won the Miami Open, Hurkacz arrives in Paris having played immaculately well throughout the season. He has won three titles, broke the world’s top 10 and scored a memorable quarterfinal victory over the Roger Federer at Wimbledon.

Those aforementioned accomplishments should give any player breathing room and soak it all in. Not Hurkacz, who did reach a respectable last eight at Indian Wells. Can he avoid an upset on Wednesday?

Can Paul Be The Party Gatecrasher?

Tommy Paul successfully navigated his path into the main draw after winning a couple of qualifying matches. He defeated Stefano Travaglia, and the big-hitting Alexei Popyrin, all in three sets.

And the American made it three wins on the trot when he he upset Jan-Lennard Struff in his first-round match. Struff had reached the semifinals in St. Petersburg a few days ago, garnering wins over Denis Shapovalov and Alexander Bublik.

Confidence was expected to be at an all-time high, but the German was no match for the agile American. It seemed Struff had expended too much energy in Russia’s second city. And he threw Paul a lifeline with his substantial misses on first serve. He landed just 61% first serves and Paul went for the kill on his return.

The fact that Paul was able to manufacture breakpoints at will (seven in the match), just clearly showed Struff’s struggles behind his delivery. Now the World No. 53 will embark on another potential upset on Wednesday.

Hurkacz v Paul Prediction and Tip

Hurkacz has a lot too lose on Wednesday and cannot afford to play below standard. We reckon the Pole will have enough to knock off Paul.
