The head to head tally is tied at 1-1 with Sasnovich getting the last laugh in the Indian Wells Open just a few weeks back. The Belarusian won that match in straight sets.

Halep Discovers her Form in Transylvania

After battling with a myriad of injuries and the subsequent form issues, Simona Halep finally discovered her form at her home tournament of Transylvania Open. Playing in Cluj-Napoca, the top seed made it all the way to the final before losing to Anett Kontaveit.

Nonetheless, it was Halep’s first WTA singles final since September 2020 as she now looks to build some more form in the final days of the season and possibly, set the foundation for the next year.

The former World No. 1, who is currently placed at the #22 spot on the rankings – hasn’t had that great of a year owing to injuries. She missed out on the French Open and the entirety of the grass swing – and returned to action only in the US Open Series.

In the bunch of tournaments, the Romanian featured in, her best run came in New York where she reached the fourth round. Later on, Halep also made it to the quarterfinals in the Kremlin Cup. Needless to say, the 30-year-old is getting back to her former self by the day and looks confident to deliver a deep run here in Linz.

Sasnovich Survives Ferro

While Halep enjoyed the luxury of starting as the second seed here with a bye into the second round, Aliaksandra Sasnovich had to take the longer route.

In the Linz Open opener, she defeated Fiona Ferro 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 to set up the clash with the Grand Slam winner. With that win, her tally for the year now stands at 25-22.

Among the Belarusian’s highlights are a fourth-round sprint in the Indian Wells Open, where she moved past the likes of Halep and Emma Raducanu – before ultimately losing to Victoria Azarenka.

That said, Sasnovich hasn’t been among the most consistent performer on the tour either, evident from the fact that she is ranked at the 85th spot in the rankings. Her last WTA singles final appearance was in the 2018 Brisbane International.

Halep v Sasnovich Prediction and Tip

Halep fell to Sasnovich in the Indian Wells and will look to avoid a similar fate again while avenging that shock loss. Given that she arrived in Linz on the back of her best performance of the season yet, she is likely to keep that momentum going.

Expect a straight-set win for Halep.
