Two ATP Finals in 2021 for Korda

Korda broke through on the senior tour in January, when he reached his maiden ATP final in Delray Beach before losing to Hubert Hurkasz.

He then reached his first Masters’ quarter-final in Miami, and, for the first time in his career, beat a top ten ranked player in the process in the form of Diego Schwartzman, He would later bet Roberto Batuista-Agut on the grass of Halle in June.

Better still was to come in Parma in May, where he won his first senior title, having also clinched victory in a Challenger tournament in France earlier in the year.

Last week in Paris, he beat two men who had enjoyed success on Russian soil – Aslan Karatsev, the winner in Moscow, and Marin Cilic, the St. Petersburg victor, before hs run was ended by another Russian, Daniil Medvedev.

However, he did have the satisfaction of taking the first set off the US Open winner.

Paris Quarter-Finalist Gaston

Gaston was the very last man to book his place in Milan, and needed other higher-ranked players to drop out to earn hs shot in Italy.

However, he comes into the tournament full of confidence, after reaching his maiden Masters quarter-final in Paris last week in front of his home fans.

There he came through two rounds of qualifying to make the main draw, and then proceeded to beat three higher ranked players, including Pablo Carreno-Busta, the Olympic bronze medallist, and the top seed in Italy this week, Carlos Alcaraz.

Like Korda, his run was eventually ended by Medvedev.

The 21-year old earlier in the year also enjoyed a run to the final on the clay of Gstaad, before losing to Caster Ruud.

On the Challenger Tour he has made four finals, all of them on clay, but lost all of them.
