Denis Shapovalov v Andrea Vavassori Head to Head

Shapovalov and Vavassori have not featured in a head-to-head clash till date. However, with the Italian in red-hot form in the Swedish capital thus far, expect him to give the seasoned Canadian a good fight as they go head-to-head for the first time ever on Wednesday.

Shapovalov Looking to Get on Consistent Run

After falling just short of reaching the second week of the US Open and finishing in the third round, Shapovalov endured more failure at the Laver Cup as Team World came second-best to Team Europe again in the marquee team event.

However, individually too, the Canadian wasn’t at his best in the subsequent events as he recorded an underwhelming quarter-final finish at the San Diego Open. Having launched his campaign with a straight-set win over American Taylor Fritz, the Canadian slipped in his next against in-form British star Cameron Norrie to crash out of the tournament.

After moving into the second round of his next event, the Indian Wells Masters, by virtue of a walkover from fellow countryman Vasek Pospisil,  the World No.18 Canadian lost his second-round clash with Russian Aslan Karatsev to see his title hopes go up in flames.

Coming into St.Petersburg in the hope of better returns, the Canadian opened with a win over veteran Spaniard Pablo Andujar but fell to a shock defeat to German Jan-Lennard Struff in his next to bow out of the event.

Shapovalov would be hoping for a more consistent run as he opens his campaign in the Swedish capital against unheralded Italian Andrea Vavassori on Wednesday.

Though he should fancy going past his Italian opponent without too much trouble, the Canadian would be well advised not to take anything for granted going into the clash.

Unfancied Vavassori Eyes Shapovalov Upset

Lying at his distant 289th in singles currently, Vavassori came into the Stockholm Open with high hopes after finishing in the quarter-finals of his last Challenger event.

And, by the looks of things, the transition from Challenger to top-level hasn’t been too much of a challenge for the Italian as he cleared the qualifying rounds with aplomb, sealing his passage into the main tournament draw.

Launching his campaign proper against Pavel Kotov, Vavassori got past the Russian in straight sets. Bossing the early exchanges, the Italian took the opening set by a handsome margin and repeated the dose in the second to prevail with relative ease.

However, his true test begins now as he would be up against Canadian ace Denis Shapovalov in his next on Wednesday. While the odds are stacked against him as far as this tie is concerned, the Italian would want to take the attack to the Canadian and play for an win.

Shapovalov v Vavassori Prediction and Tip

Shapovalov is way ahead of Vavassori in the rankings and will start as an overwhelming favorite going into this second-round tie on Wednesday.
