Simona Halep v Jaqueline Cristian Head to Head

In their one and only meeting on the WTA Tour, Halep was the winner. She took the match with 6-1, 6-1, in the Transylvania Open just a couple of weeks ago.

Halep Battles Past Paolini

Simona Halep was truly tested in the Linz Open on Wednesday against the Italian Jasmine Paolini. In what was certainly a frustrating match for the former world number one to some extent, she had to battle for a little over two hours to get the job done.

Halep lost the first set but moved on to stage a brilliant comeback and take the match with 4-6, 7-5, 6-0. With this win, the 30-year-old is now in her second consecutive semifinal on the WTA Tour.

In Cluj-Napoca, the current World No. 22 fell in the final to Anett Kontaveit – but that performance brought a lot of positives with her. Having health with injuries and form woes for a good chunk of the season, the Romanian looks right on track to make amends and rediscover her groove – just in time for the next year’s action.

As a five-time Grand Slam finalist and winner of numerous WTA Tour trophies, Halep is now the heavy favourite to go the distance in Linz, especially after the exit of top seed Emma Raducanu earlier this week.

Cristian, Making the Most of the Chance

Jaqueline Cristian started in the Linz Open as a lucky loser after she fell in the final qualifying round. However, she has played the kind of tennis that would peg her as a seeded player.

In the opening round, she defeated Kamilla Rakhimova in three sets and then moved past Rebecca Peterson next (it was more of a walkover as the Swede withdrew in the first set itself). In the quarters, Cristian delivered the biggest win of the tournament yet by knocking out the fourth-seeded Russian Veronika Kudermetova 6-2, 7-6(5).

The 23-year-old at the moment is ranked at the #100th spot and of late, has really played some good tennis. Since the start of the season, she has moved up a good 60 places in the order, propelled by her quarterfinal stint in Palermo and Cluj-Napoca, and semis in Karlsruhe Challenger and Astana Open.

Halep v Cristian Prediction and Tip

Halep has the experience, momentum, and form on her side. Barring any hiccups or struggles, she should do well to register yet another clinical win over her compatriot and reach the final.

Tip: Halep to win 2-0: 4/9 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
