Frances Tiafoe v Tommy Paul Head to Head

This is the second meeting between both players with Tiafoe winning their only encounter in Delray Beach in 2020 in two very tight sets.

Tiafoe Continues Strong Run Of Form

Frances Tiafoe maybe often regarded as inconsistent and unable to live up to the hype around him,  but he has been pulling off some impactful results in recent times. The American did well to defeat Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Wmbledon opener and then Canadian Denis Shapovalov at the Canadian Masters earlier this summer.

A good run at the US Open followed where he made the round of 16 defeating number five seed Andrey Rublev enroute, before falling to semi-finalist Felix Auger Aliassime.

The Indian Wells Masters saw him defeat Benoit Paire and Sebastian Korda convincingly before falling to Next Gen Pole Hubert Hurkacz.  Tiafoe was also involved in one of the matches of the year in the opening round at Antwerp, where he lost in a 3hr 45 minute thriller to former world number one on a comeback, Andy Murray.

Scalping Stefanos Tsitsipas, Diego Schwartzman and Jannik Sinner, the American made the finals of the Vienna ATP 500 last month before losing out to Alexander Zverev.

The good Tiafoe form has continued this week with wins against Elias Ymer, Pedro Martinez and Dan Evans, as the American looks to end the season with another final to add to his tally.

Paul Scalps Resurgent Murray

Tommy Paul continued his march forward in the tournament as he pulled off a convincing and hard fought win over Andy Murray who has been on quite the comeback trail with impressive wins every week, since return from hip surgery.

Having beaten Leo Borg (son of Swedish icon Bjron Borg) in the opener, Paul upped the tempo a few levels to pull off a surprise win against compatriot and in-form number one American Taylor Fritz.

Up against Andy Murray in the quarter-finals who has been pulling off many unexpected wins, it was a tussle for Paul. After  losing the first set, Murray came back strong to win the second and it was a game of ‘inches’ in the third as the American prevailed and book a place in his first semi-final of the year.

The quarter-final win improved Paul to 23-23 in 2021. His best runs included a semifinal finish in Parma and a last eight appearance in Rotterdam. As he is in his first final four of the year, he will  be hoping to keep the winning momentum going.

Tiafoe v Paul Prediction and Tip

Both players have looked in good touch and played some inspired tennis in recent times and more so this week. Expect a tight match here that will be down to who’s better on the day on the big points. Picking Tiafoe to clinch a hard fought three setter.
